The Salt Museum of Cervia, also known with the name of MUSA, is located in the seventeenth century wing of the evocative salt warehouse near to the famous Camillone Salt Pan that still produces 1000 quintals per year of precious sweet salt harvested by hand. One excellence of the territory that has crossed national borders becoming one of the jewels of the Italian gastronomy.
The Salt Museum was created by the free initiative of the cultural group Civiltà Salinara with the aim of keeping alive the memory on an activity that strongly identifies the culture of the place. In its halls are preserved documents, tools, videos and photos of the time as a witness of the centrality of Man and his culture.
Opened throughout the year and free, the Salt Museum combines to the visit also other possible activities such as the discovery of the Camillone Salt Pan, still processed by hand for cognitive purpose and important Slow Food stronghold and a visit to the imposing salt warehouses, testimonies of an industrial archaeology rehabilitated as a venue for important events.
And for a full immersion experience, during the summer season it is possible to become salt workers for a day. An interesting opportunity open to all, between the ages of 15 and 90, which allows you to spend a fun afternoon in the salt pan of Camillone learning the ancient art of making salt in the company of the salt workers. All accompanied by a nice tasting of typical products of the place.
The Salt Museum of Cervia also organizes educational workshops for children and dedicated guided tours, becoming a place of culture and knowledge for the whole family on holiday on the Riviera Romagnola.
